Canberra families continue the push for paediatric cancer care closer to home.

Region Canberra reports on the next steps following the community campaign and the petition signed by 2,364 Canberrans. The ACT Legislative Assembly has agreed to a timeline for a government feasibility and scoping exercise into an enhanced paediatric oncology and haematology service, with an interim update expected by March 2027 and a final report due by June 2027. The review will also consider interstate travel assistance and support for families who need to travel for specialist treatment.

Our petition has been tabled.

Our petition calling for better access to paediatric oncology and haematology care in the ACT was officially tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly. Elizabeth Lee MLA sponsored the petition and spoke about why this matters to Canberra families. With 2,364 signatures, this milestone reflects the many families, friends and community members who stood behind the call for change.

And then came even more support.

Following the tabling of the petition, Deborah Morris MLA spoke in support of the need for better paediatric oncology and haematology services for families in the ACT. Her contribution added another voice in the Assembly recognising the importance of this issue, building on the community campaign supported by more than 2,300 people.
