WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS
A dedicated Children's Oncology Unit in Canberra.
Our mission is to advocate for and help secure a dedicated paediatric oncology and haematology unit in Canberra, so children with cancer and blood disorders can receive more of the specialist care they need closer to home.
For families facing childhood cancer, being closer to home can mean being closer to grandparents, siblings, friends, school, work and the community around them. It means reducing unnecessary travel and helping families stay together through one of the most difficult experiences they may ever face.
We believe Canberra families deserve access to high-quality, specialist paediatric oncology and haematology care without having to travel further than necessary.
WHY CLOSER 2 CARE EXISTS
Hi, I'm Robyn.
I'm a mum to two beautiful boys, Angus (7) and Emmett (4).
When Emmett was just 2½ years old, our world changed forever with a childhood cancer diagnosis.
Since then, we've made countless trips between Canberra and Sydney for treatment, experiencing firsthand the emotional, financial and practical challenges that come with accessing specialist paediatric oncology and haematology care away from home.
It became clear that no family should have to leave their home, support network and community to access essential cancer and blood disorder treatment for their child.
With the help of a friend, we started Closer 2 Care, a community-driven campaign advocating for a paediatric oncology and haematology unit in Canberra.
Our goal is simple: to bring specialist paediatric oncology and haematology care closer to home, so children can receive the treatment they need while surrounded by the people and places that help them heal.
